The Leonhardt workshop dates back to 1926, when it was founded by Anton Dietl in Mittenwald, Germany.

In 1968, Dietl's son-in-law, Wilfried Leonhardt, took over the workshop.

In 1997, Rainer Leonhardt took over the workshop, which continues to this day.

Reiner's son has now joined the workshop.

In addition to his work as a violin maker, Rainer is currently the director of the Violin Museum in Mittenwald.

They produce instruments that carry on the German tradition of string instrument making and are highly regarded around the world.
