Masayuki Uchiyama
Born in Iida City, Nagano Prefecture in 1944. In 1970, he learned the basics of instrument making from violin maker Shiro Suzuki in Matsumoto City. In 1974, he began working at Suzuki Violin Manufacturing Co., Ltd. In 1979, he enrolled in the International School of Violin Making in Cremona, Italy, where he received instruction in bow making from G. Lucchi and in repair from B. Carlson.
He began making instruments as a maestro in 1985. He has been trained as a craftsman under the guidance of GB Morassi and continues to work in this field to this day.
Since 2000, the labels on the instruments have been changed to labels created by woodblock artist Adriano Porazzi.
His serious approach to making instruments, backed by detailed records of the instrument-making process, has earned him a reputation among Cremona makers.
He is also a founding member of the Italian instrument makers group "ALI".
