Georg Winterling

Winterling / Hamburg, Germany / 1859-1933 /

Born in 1859 in Váckov, formerly Watzkenreuth, now the Czech Republic.

He studied string instrument making under Benedikt Klier (W. 1870-1904) of Ruby.

After working in Frankfurt, Dresden, Vienna, etc., he moved to Hamburg and worked in the workshop of Pfab (Friedrich August 1822-1904) for about five years. In 1889 he received a license from the Hamburg makers' association and became independent in 1890.

They made beautifully varnished instruments with careful workmanship, and also repaired many old instruments.

He retired in 1920 and moved to the outskirts of Munich, handing over his work to his long-time assistants, Anton Schreiber (1891-1983) and Anton Lugert (1894-?).

He died in Munich sometime after 1933.
