Léon Victor Mougenot
He was born in 1874 in Mirecourt, France, into a family of violin makers.
Mugeno began making violins in 1887 under Emile Laurent (1854-1914) in Paris.
He then honed his skills at leading manufacturers and famous workshops of the time, including his father's cousin Georges Mougenot (1843-1937) in Brussels, Paul Blanchard (1851-1921) in Lyon, Paul Jombard (1868-1949) in Paris, and Hill & Sans in London, England, before going independent in 1899 in Mirecourt.
In 1909 he won a gold medal at the International Exhibition in Nancy.
He was also related to the famous bow maker Eugene Sartory (1871-1946), and is known to have collaborated or apprenticed with over 75 instrument makers, mainly in Paris, where Sartory lived.
Representative manufacturers who have worked with Mugeno include:
[Philippe Dupuy / Charles Enel / Pierre Enel / Rene Jacquemin / Max Millant / Paul Crolet / Gustav Vuillaume / Carlo Bisiach / Leandro Bisiach]
