Tullio Rovescalli
He was born in Crema on January 21, 1906, as the second son of Azzo Rovescalli (1880-1940).
He learned violin making from his father. He then worked in Cremona and Lodi, before opening his own workshop in Via Bastioni Genova in Milan around 1930, where he worked for musicians at La Scala. Tullio worked on making and repairing instruments, but unfortunately his workshop was destroyed by artillery fire during the war. After the war, he gave up violin making and instead made wooden toys.
Tulio made violins and violas, but does not appear to have made cellos.
His style was influenced by his father Azzo and Romeo Antoniazzi (1862-1925).
The varnish is usually a yellow-brown or orange-brown varnish applied over a slightly darker base coat.
He returned to Milan in 1967 and died there on November 22, 1974, at the age of 68.
