Amedeo Simonazzi
Born in 1891 in Santa Vittoria, south of Mantua.
Both his grandfather and father were active double bass players.
Influenced by his father, Amedeo became interested in instrument making and would frequently cycle to the workshop of master virtuoso Stefano Scarampella (1843-1925) in Mantua.
Due to Scarampella's illness, his apprentice Gaetano Gadda (1900-1956) took over the work in the workshop.
Therefore, Amedeo aimed to create precise and sturdy instruments rather than a style influenced by Scalampella, and maintained a consistent style throughout his life.
During his lifetime he made over 500 violins and violas, as well as several cellos and double basses.
He died in 1984 (at the age of 93).
