Igino Sderci

Sderci / Firenze, Italy / 1884-1983 /

Born in 1884 in Gaiole in Chianti, south of Florence.

After training as a woodcarver, he initially began making violins on his own.

He later became a pupil of Leandro Bisiach (1864-1946), and during the time the Bisiach family was staying in Siena, he taught violin making to Leandro's sons (Giacomo & Leandro Bisiach 1900-1995/1904-1982).

He crafts exquisite instruments in Stradivari or Amati models, featuring beautifully finished scrollwork and golden orange varnish.

He won high prizes at the exhibitions in Cremona in 1937 and 1949.

He has made over 700 violins and violas, but only one cello is recorded.

He died in Florence in 1983 (age 99).
