Giorgio Ullmann

Ullmann / Milan, Italy / 1879-1946 /

Born in 1879 in Bad Elster, Germany.

He learned craftsmanship from Schmidt (Ernst Reinhold Schmidt 1857-1928) in Markneukirchen.

He then honed his skills in workshops such as Theodor Kurth (1885-1935) and Oswald Möckel (1843-1912) in Berlin, Dvorak (1842-1901) in Prague, and Eugenio Degani (1842-1901) in Venice.

In 1903 he opened his own workshop in Milan, where he continued to work at the Conservatory while maintaining his relationship with Dvořák.

In 1919 he moved to Turin and in 1921 to Zurich.

The instrument was based on a Stradivarius and featured detailed workmanship and a pale, slightly opaque golden yellow to red varnish.

He is an interesting maker who honed his skills in transitional Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland.

He died in Zurich in 1946 (age 67).
