Gabriel David Buchstetter
David Gabriel Buschstetter was a maker active in Regensburg, Bavaria, from about 1730 to 1780.
It is believed that he learned violin making from his father, Christophe Andre (Christoff Andre Buchstetter?-?).
His son Joseph (Joseph Buchstetter W. 1775-1780) was also active as a violin maker.
It is said that Buschstetter's violins were the favorite instrument of the famous German violinist Louis Spohr (1784-1859) in every concert he gave.
It seems that he used these excellent materials to make not only violins but also lutes and other instruments.
Although the scroll has a unique form, it retains the influence of Steiner, who was active in the Tyrol region, and the arching gives the instrument an atmosphere reminiscent of Cremona's Amati and Stradivarius.
He is one of the important early German makers, and there are few opportunities to see the real thing in Japan.
