Domenico Busan

Busan / Italy Venice / W. 1720-1783 /

He was born around 1720 in Tarvisio (near the Austrian-Slovenian border).

He moved to Venice around 1743-44 and worked with Giovanni Ongaro (1708-1778), a pupil and son-in-law of Matteo Goffriller (1659-1742 bc), and his son Ignazio Ongaro (1741-1811?).

Domenico was a luthier and double bassist.

At that time, instrument manufacturing in Venice was already in decline, and it is thought that instruments were being produced to a variety of performers using cheaper materials rather than Cremona-style manufacturing methods.

Although Domenico's instruments are often inconsistent and have a rough finish, their attractive tone, such as that of violas and double basses, makes them popular with performers.

He died in Venice in 1783.
