Giuseppe & Antonio Gagliano

Gagliano / Italy Napoli / fl.c.1770-1800 /

Nicola Gagliano (fl.c.1740-1780) had four sons.

Among them, Giuseppe and Antonio worked together as violin makers from around 1770 to 1800.

Giuseppe helped his father with his work and was a skilled musician, some of Nicola's instruments even having scrolls made by Giuseppe.

Compared to instruments made by Giuseppe and Antonio himself, instruments made jointly by Giuseppe and Antonio tend to be of a slightly lower quality as a result of the scrolls and other parts being roughly finished due to Giuseppe's prolific production.

This style was later copied by the Galliano family and the Neapolitan Giovanni Pistucci (1864-1955).
