Joseph Alfred Lamy

Lamy / France / 1850-1919 / 弓

He is a master known as "LAMY Pere".
At the age of 12, he became an apprentice to Claude Charles Nicolas HUSSON and learned bow making.
At that time, Charles Claude Husson and Joseph Arthur Vigneron père also trained at the Husson workshop.
At the age of 26, he began working as an assistant to Francois Nicolas VOIRIN.
Like his master VOIRIN, he was influenced by Vuillaume, and during the nine years he worked as his assistant he developed such skill that his work was difficult to distinguish from that of his master.
At the age of 35, he set up his own workshop and became independent.
At the age of 39, Eugine Sartory, who would later become one of the most important bow makers of the 20th century, began to work as his assistant.
SARTORY's early works show a strong influence from LAMY.
JOSEF ALFRED LAMY was not only a manufacturer active from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, but also an important link between VOIRIN and SARTORY.
His sons Hippolyte Camille Lamy (1875-1942) and Georges Leon Lamy (1881-1915), as well as his nephew Alfred Lamy (1886-1923), were also active as bow makers.
